Dental Fillings

If you have a cavity (or tooth decay from plaque) that has gotten too large, it may be recommended that you get a filling.

Dental Fillings

Dental fillings are used to fill cavities (these come from letting bacteria accumulate leading to tooth decay) we may first “freeze” the designated area with a local anesthetic to reduce the pain. Afterwards, your dentist removes the tooth decay, shapes the hole and fills it.

How A Dental Filling is Done

  1. Direct Filling – Once we clean out the decay,  a direct filling is used to fill up your cavity. Direct fillings are made of amalgam (silver) or plastic (white). They cement quickly and can usually be done in one appointment.
  2. Indirect Filling – These can be inlays or crowns and are customized to your tooth in a lab. We then cement this indirect filling in place. With this type of fillings, they can take a few appointments.
