Dental Crowns

Damaged, but not lost – if your tooth needs a little TLC, a crown can restore its shape, appearance and function.

Dental Crowns

A dental crown is a hollow, artificial tooth that makes your damaged tooth look and function like a natural tooth. It conveniently protects it from any more damage or decay too.

What Requires a Crown?

There could be a few reasons why a crown could be a good look on you, such as:

  • You have a weak tooth that needs to be strengthened or requires a bridge
  • You have a discoloured tooth as compared to other nearby teeth
  • Or you wish to have a crown placed for cosmetic reasons

There are different types of crowns that can be used, including stainless steel, ceramic, porcelain, or resin. We’ll make a recommendation on which is best for your tooth during your dental exam or consultation.

Dental crowns can last between 5 and 15 years, depending on wear and tear.

What is the Process?

  1. Your Red Deer dentist administers a local anesthetic to freeze the area
  2. The tooth is filed to make room
  3. An impression of the tooth and nearby teeth is taken
  4. A temporary crown is placed while the impression is being created
  5. Your final visit is the day your temporary crown is removed and your tooth is finally crowned
