Cosmetic Dentistry

Cosmetic dentistry is generally used to refer to any dental work that improves the appearance of teeth, gums and/or bite. It focuses on improvement in dental aesthetics in colour, position, shape, size, alignment and overall smile appearance.

Types of Cosmetic Dentistry

Teeth Whitening
Teeth whitening is known to be a simple and inexpensive way to improve your smile. There a few options to whiten your teeth:

  • In-office bleaching products: or you can bleach your teeth at home when you buy a mold from your dentist.
  • Over the counter teeth whitening: Retail stores offer convenient at-home whitening: whitening toothpaste, white strips, and rinses.

Dental Veneers
Dental veneers are custom tooth-coloured porcelain or resin shells that cover the front surface of your teeth. After removing a bit of enamel from the tooth surface, the veneer shells are cemented (bonded) to the front of your teeth. This changes their shape, colour, size, or length, depending on your needs. Because Hollywood celebrities seem to have ideally coloured teeth, veneers are often called “Hollywood teeth.”

Dental Bonding
Dental bonding can do a few things:

  1. Repair decayed, chipped, cracked, or misshapen teeth.
  2. Be a great cosmetic alternative or replacement for metal fillings.

It involves a tooth-coloured resin (which is a durable plastic material) that is hardened onto the tooth by .an ultraviolet or laser light before being trimmed, shaped, and polished. Bonding takes about 30 to 60 minutes.

Dental Crowns
Dental crowns are important because they can replace an entire decayed or damaged tooth above the gum line and fit over top to restore the strength, appearance, size, and shape of the tooth. They can prevent weak teeth from breaking and hold a cracked tooth together, even covering misshapen or discoloured teeth!

Inlays and Onlays “Fillings”
Inlays and onlays are also known as indirect fillings and can be an alternative to crowns. They fill decayed or damaged teeth and are made from gold, porcelain, or composite materials. Dental inlays and onlays are created in a dental laboratory and bonded into place by your dentist. Inlays are when the filling is bonded within the centre of the tooth while an “onlay” is when the filling covers the biting area of the tooth surface.

Dental Bridges
A dental bridge connects crowns on either side of a gap with false teeth in between.
